ACCESS Testing 1/10-1/11

Dear MHS Students, Parents and Families,

On Tuesday, January 10th and Wednesday, January 11th some of our MHS students will be taking the ACCESS Test. If you are scheduled to take the ACCESS Test you have already received a separate message with more information about the test. If you have not received another message that your student is taking the test, your student is not required to take the ACCESS Test and will be on a modified schedule on the above dates. 

Those students who are NOT testing, need to be in school at 10:50 AM. The school day will finish at 3:41 pm on both Tuesday and Wednesday (no early release).

What is the ACCESS Test? The ACCESS test is a language proficiency assessment administered to students in Kindergarten through 12th grade who are in the process of learning English as a second language. This test helps our school district and the state of Colorado monitor student progress in acquiring academic English. 

Why is ACCESS Important? 

  • Your ACCESS scores show you how your academic English is improving and what you need to work on to continue to grow.
  • Your ACCESS scores show teachers what they need to focus on to prepare you for college and ensure a learning experience that meets your learning profile.
  • If you score all 4’s and higher (and keep your grades up) you won’t have to take it again.
  • Your scores help us make sure you are in the correct English and ELD classes.

Estimados estudiantes, padres y familias de MHS,

El martes 10 y miércoles 11 de enero, algunos de nuestros estudiantes de MHS tomarán el examen ACCESS. Si tiene programado realizar el examen ACCESS, recibirá un mensaje por separado con más información sobre el examen. Si no recibe otro mensaje de que su estudiante está tomando el examen, su estudiante no está obligado a tomar el examen ACCESS y estará en un horario modificado en las fechas mencionadas.

Aquellos estudiantes que NO están tomando la prueba, necesitan estar en la escuela a las 10:50 AM. El día escolar terminará a las 3:41 pm los martes y miércoles (sin salida temprana).

¿Qué es la Prueba ACCES? La prueba ACCESS es una evaluación de dominio del idioma que se administra a los estudiantes desde el jardín de infantes hasta el grado 12 que están en el proceso de aprender inglés como segundo idioma. Esta prueba ayuda a nuestro distrito escolar y al estado de Colorado a monitorear el progreso de los estudiantes en la adquisición del inglés académico.

¿Por qué es importante el ACCESO?

Tus puntuaciones de ACCESS te muestran cómo está mejorando tu inglés académico y en qué necesitas trabajar para seguir creciendo.
Tus puntajes de ACCESS les muestran a los maestros en qué deben enfocarse para prepararte para la universidad y garantizar una experiencia de aprendizaje que cumpla con tu perfil de aprendizaje.
Si obtiene un puntaje de 4 o más (y mantiene sus calificaciones altas), no tendrá que volver a tomarlo.
Sus puntajes nos ayudan a asegurarnos de que esté en las clases correctas de inglés y ELD.
