Jared Lewis is entering his second season as the Head Boys Basketball Coach for Montbello High School. He is a proud Montbello High School alum (Class of 2004). Jared has more than 15 years of coaching experience as a Division I, Head High School, and Youth Basketball Coach.
As a student at Montbello, Jared excelled both in the classroom and in sports. He lettered in basketball, football, and track & field and received numerous accolades. Jared was an All-State performer in basketball and earned a Division I scholarship to the University of Northern Colorado. In track & field, he anchored the Warriors State Championship 4x100m relay. At the time, the relay recorded the third fastest time in the nation and Jared earned US Track & Field News High School All-American Honors.
Jared went on to compete collegiately in both basketball and track & field. He was a two-sport athlete playing meaningful minutes for the UNC Bears on the court as well as winning conference championships in track in the 100m and 4x400m relay.
Jared has always had a passion for basketball but ultimately transferred to Iowa State University to finish his collegiate career focusing on track. There, he earned a silver medal at the Big XII Championships in the 60m. Jared ended his career earning Academic All American, Regional Qualifier, National Qualifier, and All Big XII honors.
Despite his success in track & field, Jared’s heart was always on the basketball court. He knew from a very young age that he wanted to be a Head Basketball Coach. After graduating, Jared was hired on the Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff of the University of Wyoming. As a Division I coach, Jared had the opportunity to help develop several players that played professionally around the world.
He returned to Denver after three years at UW inspired to bring his expertise back to his neighborhood. Jared began coaching youth sports at the Denver Broncos Boys & Girls Club in Montbello before being hired to start Denver School of Science and Technology – Green Valley Ranch’s Basketball program. During his 8-year tenure, Jared led DSST-GVR to five league championships, seven playoff appearances, and four Sweet 16 appearances. He is also a 3x Confluence League Coach of the Year.
Jared holds his student athletes to a very high standard and is committed to ensuring their success both in the classroom and on the court. He is returning home to Montbello where he hopes to help build the new era of Montbello Basketball as one of the most prominent programs in the state!
Jared earned a masters degree in education from the University of Wyoming and a dual bachelor’s degree in sociology and criminal justice from Iowa State University. In addition to coaching, he works professionally in the technology industry.
