Head Baseball Coach

This is my second year back at Montbello leading the JV team as we prepare to take over the entire program next year.  I am currently the Co-Director of Baseball at Athletics and Beyond in the Montbello Neighborhood. Previously I was the Head Baseball Coach at Manual High School from 2013-2022.  In 2017 I received the 1st ever Coach of the Year Award.  Overall, I have coached High School baseball for 20 + years.  I started at Montbello in 2000 under Hall of Fame Coach Herb Sanders. I became Head “C” Team Coach in 2001 and held that position until 2005. From 2006-2007 I was the JV Head Coach at South High School.  I returned to Montbello from 2007-2008 as JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant to Coach Bryan Sanders.  I was an Assistant Softball Coach from 2007-2008 and Head Coach for the 2009 Season. I then moved on to Manual as an Assistant Coach for Coach Herb Sanders for the 2011-2012 Season.  Additionally, I coached the Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities (RBI) team in the Regional Tournament in Las Vegas in 2004, 2005 and most recently in 2022 in Los Angeles.

I played baseball at Montbello High School from 1996-1999, and won both the City and District Championships my senior year which is the only Baseball Championships in School History. In 2006, I received my Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Metropolitan State College of Denver, and in 2011, a Masters of Education in Teaching and Learning from Argosy University.

Currently I work for the Governor’s Office of Information Technology as a Project Coordinator for the Colorado Benefits Management System (CBMS). Happily married to Vanessa Martinez (14 years) with two children, Jace (14) and Jessa (10).

I, like many others, are a part of the Herb Sanders coaching tree. Those that have had the privilege to play/work with Coach Sanders know the importance of life beyond baseball.  I have continued this in my entire coaching career and have focused on creating successful young men and women beyond baseball.

I firmly believe that to be successful on the diamond you must take care of business in the classroom and at home. Being a student-athlete is a privilege, not a right.
